Configuring Register Preferences

Note:  If you opened a merchant account with Element Payment Services so that you can process credit and debit card payments through Millennium, additional configuration steps are required.  Click here for instructions.


  1. Select Data > Business Information and Preferences.

The Business Information window displays.

  1. Click Edit and click the Preferences tab.
  2. Select "Register" in the Category field.
  3. Complete the following if you use split commissions:
  1. In the Default Split on Services fields, select the commission percentages to pay the primary and secondary service providers for performing a service.

  2. In the Default Split on Retail fields, select the commission percentages to pay the primary and secondary employees for recommending a product.

  1. Move to the Preferences list and make selections using the following table as a guide:

Select to allow employees to search for a gift certificate on the Gift Certificate Redemption window by entering the client's name or a full/partial gift certificate number.

Always Return Transactions On Hold Without Prompt

Select to return a transaction from hold when you type the client's name on the Register.

Select to default the appointment type for a new appointment to the appointment type selected for the client's last appointment with the employee.

Select to force users to type their login credentials after clicking Sale.

Automatically log out after transaction completes

Select to log out users once they complete a transaction.

Automatically set RESELL option on returned products to TRUE

Select to mark a product available for resale when you process a refund.

Check Out All Appts Even If Changed

Select to mark an appointment checked out even if you change the scheduled service during ring up.

Check for Missing Business Phone

Select to notify employees when a client does not have a business phone number entered in their profile.

Select to alert employees when a client's wedding anniversary is today.

Client Birthday Notification

Select to alert employees when a client's birthday is today.

Select if you do not want to alert employees about client birthdays.

Default Employee to PRIMARY EMPLOYEE

Select if you always schedule appointments with the employee selected in the Primary Employee field in a client's profile.

Select if you do not want to schedule all appointments for a client with a specific employee.

Default Membership Commission Split to FULL

Select if you usually pay two employees full commission for selling a membership.

Select if you do not usually pay full commission to two employees for selling a membership.

Default Split Line Commission to FULL Commission

Select to pay both the primary and secondary service providers full commission when you use a split line commission.  When you select this option, clear the percentages in the Default Split on Services fields next to the Preferences list.

Select to pay the primary and secondary service providers different commission percentages when you use a split line commission.  When you select this option, select percentages in the Default Split on Services fields next to the Preferences list.

Force Appointment Type to be Entered in Appt Editor/Register

Select to force employees to select an appointment type when scheduling an appointment or ringing up a service.

Select if you do not want to force employees to select an appointment type when scheduling an appointment or ringing up a service.

Go to Service Column by Default

Select to move the cursor to the Service field after entering the client, employee, and appointment type on the Register.

Select to move the cursor to the Product field after entering the client, employee, and appointment type on the Register.

Only Allow Pre-Paid Pkgs to be Used by Recipient.  No Sharing

Select to prevent clients from sharing the prepaid services in their package/series with other clients.

Select to allow clients to share the prepaid services in their package/series with other clients.

Pre-Paids can be used on any items with same package price

Select to allow clients to redeem a prepaid service from a package/series to pay for a different service, if the value of the prepaid is the same as the package price for the service.

Pre-book AFTER receipt prints

Select to display the Pre-Book Options window after you finalize a transaction so that you can prebook the client’s next appointment.  You must select "YES" for the Prompt User to Pre-book Next Appointment preference before you can select this preference.

Select to display the Pre-Book Options window before you collect payment.

Preview Receipt Prior to Printing

Select to display a preview of transaction receipts before printing.

Select to print transaction receipts without displaying a preview.

Print Future Appointment on Receipt

Select to print details of a client's future appointment(s) on receipts.

Print Gift Certificate Balances on Receipts

Select to print details of a client's unused gift certificate credit on receipts.

Print POINTS on Receipts

Select to print a client's reward points total on receipts.

Select if you do not want to print reward points totals on receipts.

Print Recommended Tip % on Receipt for Restaurant Style

Select to print recommended tip amounts for services on receipts (15%, 20% & 25%).

Note:  This preference is only applicable if you configured the Credit Card Processing interface to use Restaurant Style tipping.

Select if you do not want to print recommended tip amounts on receipts.

Print Tip Breakdown on Receipt if TIPS Tracked in Register

Select to print a breakdown of the tips awarded to each service provider on receipts.

Select if you only want to print a subtotal of the tips awarded.

Print a HOLD Receipt When Transaction Placed On Hold

Select to print a receipt when you place a transaction on hold.

Select if do not want to print a receipt when you place a transaction on hold.

Prompt User If Product Being Purchased Is Out Of Stock

Select to display an alert when an employee tries to ring up a product that is out of stock.

Select if you do not want to alert employees when a product is out of stock.

Prompt User for Tip Change Due on a Non-Cash Transaction

Select to display a reminder after processing a card payment to apply the tip awarded to the relevant service provider.  You should select this option if you pay tips into the cash drawer.

Select if you remove tips out of the drawer and place them into tip envelopes.

Prompt User to Pre-book Next Appointment

Select to display a reminder during ring up for employees to ask the client if they want to prebook their appointment.

Important:  To use this feature, all services must have a recommended frequency of visit entered in the This service should be performed every _ weeks field on the Service Definitions window.

Select if you do not want to display a prebook reminder for employees.

Prompt for Client Formulas/Visit Notes after Ring-up

Select to display the Formulas window after you finalize a transaction so that you can type formulas/visit notes.

Select if you do not want to display the Formulas window after you finalize a transaction.

Prompt when client has ticket on hold and service is changed

Select to display a prompt when employees attempt to ring up an on-hold transaction for a client who has an appointment scheduled on the Appointment Book.

Select if you do not want to display a prompt when employees attempt to ring up an on-hold transaction for a client who has an appointment scheduled on the Appointment Book.

Refund pkgs based on Price? (NO = Value)

Select to refund the price paid at the time of sale when you refund a package/series.

Select to refund the value of the package/series at the time of sale when you refund a package/series.

Show Client Address Below Their Name

Select to display a client's address when you type their name in the Paying Client field.

Select if you do not want to display client addresses on the Register.

Show Fee Field in Credit Card Authorization Screen

Select to add a surcharge to transactions where clients pay by credit card.

Important:  When you select this option, you need to set a surcharge for each credit card payment type in the Fee % field on the Credit Cards & Payment Types window.  The Fee field will then display on the Credit Card Authorization window when you select to process a credit card payment, showing the percentage surcharge added to the transaction.

Select if you do not want to add a surcharge to transactions where clients pay by credit card.

Show Itemized Discount Details

Select to print an itemized breakdown of the coupons and discounts applied to a transaction on receipts.

Select if you only want to print the total value of coupons and discounts used on receipts.

Show Product Previously Purchased

Select to display a list of products that a client previously purchased when you type a client's name in the Paying Client field.

Select if you do not want to display the products that the client previously purchased.

Show Referrals Since Clients Last Visit

Select to display the new clients that a client has referred since their last visit.

Select if you do not want to display details of client referrals.

Show Tanning Button

Select to show the Tanning button on the Register so you can sell tanning packages.

Select if you do not sell tanning services.

Show Tax Breakdown

Select to print an itemized breakdown of the tax charged on a transaction on receipts.

Important:  You should only select this option if you are required to display the tax collected on products and services separately.

Select if you only want to print the total tax charged on receipts.

Show Tax ID

Select to print the Tax ID for your business on receipts.  When you select this option, you must make an entry in the Tax ID field on the General tab.

Select if you do not want to print the Tax ID on receipts.

Verify Primary Employee is Active

Select to alert front desk employees when a client’s primary employee is inactive so that they can select a new primary employee for the client.

Select if you do not select primary employees for your clients.

  1. In the Notify User When _ Or Fewer Standings Remain field, select the number of standing appointments that a client must have remaining at which to display an alert for employees.

  2. Click the This Computer tab.
  3. Select the Print Invoice if you want to print an 8" x 11" invoice for each sale.
  4. Click the Fields tab.
  5. (Optional) In the Tip field, type the term you use for tips.

Note:  The term you type replaces the word "tip" on transaction receipts.

  1. Click Save.
